
Ventricular Assist Device
Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are mechanical circulatory support systems used in patients with advanced heart failure to improve cardiac output as a bridge to transplantation, destination therapy, or bridge to recovery. These devices have become increasingly prevalent, requiring clinicians across specialties to understand their indications, physiology, and associated complications, including thrombosis, bleeding, infection, and right heart failure. This activity provides a comprehensive review of LVAD function, patient selection, perioperative and long-term management, and recognition of device-related emergencies. Clinicians enhance their ability to evaluate LVAD candidates, interpret device parameters, manage common complications, and coordinate care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based strategies to optimize outcomes, improve patient safety, and ensure timely intervention in this complex and growing patient population
