Triphala is a name of a traditional formulation which consists three fruits, known as myrobalans. The first ingredient is Emblica officinale, commonly known as Indian gooseberry in English, or amala in the vernacular. The second and third ingredients are Terminalia chebula, commonly known as harada in the vernacular, and Terminalia belerica, known as behada in the vernacular. These myrobalan fruits with seeds removed are normally used as a mixture consisting of an equal proportion of all three. This combination has synergistic properties. Triphala is an effective medicine for all three Dosha. It is used as a general health promoter, for cosmetics purpose to improve skin and hair quality, and for diabetic wound management. It is considered as good as Rasayana, which facilitates nourishment to all Dhatu. Triphala is the drug of choice for the treatment of several diseases, especially those of metabolism, dental and skin conditions, and for wound treatment. It has a very good effect on the health of the eyes, and is thought to delay degenerative changes, such as cataracts [31] .
